Creative Writing
&
Making A Difference
Have you ever felt like you wanted to write? Staring at the cursor as it blinks endlessly? To often I have had that same issue occur. Leaving a feeling like I am unable to complete my goal. The reason that I decided on this issue to be my first blog post. I wanted other writers to embrace writing and the inner you. Find that spark. Don’t worry what others say; Don’t worry about what other people think.
Writing is ultimately for you, to share you and your mind with the world. A chance to make a lasting impact on the world with words. This particular subject became the reason I decided to blog. It’s my contribution to help others and find a way for us all to connect and share what is within each of us.
The other night I was watching Castle on ABC. There was a part in the beginning where Richard Castle was screaming at the laptop “STOP!” When It became clear that he was screaming for the cursor to stop blinking at him as if taunting him. Making Him feel like he had no hope. It was a lost cause; I began to laugh. And I realized I could completely relate.
This is when the Ah-ha moment hit me. Almost like a call to arms. I knew at that moment, I had to write about this very thing. While it is only just a television program. I realized that myself and probably many others have felt the same. Often feeling like they were ready to quit and give up. Letting the cursor win feeling as though we aren’t good enough. So why should I bother? That statement will be the death of any writer.
Writing isn’t about being the best. It is about what you can offer. Giving a piece of yourself that will live forever in print. That should be the first and most important reason to write. Everything else that follow’s, I call that the bonus.
Another thing that I have found to plague my writing is the need to overcorrect. So much so; that I get more caught up in the need to critique. I end up being my own worst enemy.
I have watched and attended several conferences talking about this particular subject. Don’t edit while writing! Write first, let the creativity flow.
Writers block will shake any writer to their core. Giving them the feeling that the quest to write or desire to write is just too difficult. If you find that you are in such a rut, My suggestion to all writers is this…
- Start one step, or one word at a time.
